Apartment House Mydlářka, Prague 6
The new construction of the Mydlářka apartment building is part of the gradual cultivation of the Dejvice apartment complex from the 1950s, which is being built in cooperation with the Prague 6 Municipal Authority and includes the location of a playground, a kindergarten and two apartment buildings complementing the northern street front along Mydlářka Street.
One of these buildings is a house on plot 3136/9, completed in 2017, which replaced an unused ground-floor building wedged between two existing apartment buildings.
The new residential building, with one underground and four above-ground floors, does not exceed the cornices of the neighbouring houses with its roof attic, but tries to use the limited plot of the gap to exploit the area's potential by asymmetrically "stepping out" from the plan of the facade of the surrounding houses and thus non-violently reviving the uniformity of the street frontage.
The main entrance is from the street through the front garden. From the courtyard, access to the underground garages via a car lift and turntable to four parking spaces is resolved. The centre of the house layout is a circulation core formed by a three-arm staircase and a glass elevator. The 1st floor houses one smaller apartment, on the 2nd to 4th there is located on each floor one apartment with a similar layout. The day part is oriented to the south glass facade with a loggia. Bedrooms are located at the northern façade. In the centre of the layout there is a bathroom, toilet and cloakroom.
The structural system consists of two transverse load-bearing reinforced concrete walls and a stiffening stair core with slab ceilings and cantilevers.
The two facades are designed differently due to their orientation. In contrast to traditional brick apartment buildings, the southern façade is glazed and distinctly horizontally articulated with loggias across the width of the building. The verticality of the façade is given by sliding shading panels set at the very edge of the loggias. The northern façade is a combination of French windows with sandwich cladding of large format aluminium panels.
